PHASE 01
Discovery
Duration
30-minute call, plus follow-up scope email
— What happens
A conversation. You tell us about the project — what you're building or renovating, who else is involved, what the rough budget and timeline look like. For renovations, we'll ask for photos or a Pinterest board; for new builds, we'll want the architect's drawings. By the end of the call we know whether Planar is the right fit, and within two business days you'll have a written scope of work and fixed-fee quote.

PHASE 02
Site measure
Duration
1 — 3 hours on site
— What happens
For renovations: we measure the existing space — walls, openings, services, ceiling heights, mechanical interferences. For new builds: this is the first of two measures — initial dimensions for design, with a return measure after drywall and rough-ins are complete. Every line in the shop drawings traces back to a number we measured in person.

PHASE 03
Concept design
Duration
1 — 2 weeks
— What happens
We model the cabinetry in Mozaik — every box, drawer, door, and pull-out engineered to construction tolerances. The model exports to SketchUp for material, finish, and hardware visualisation, then renders in Enscape as walkable 3D scenes. You see exactly how the kitchen looks from the door, from the island, from the breakfast nook — before any decisions are locked.

PHASE 04
Documentation
Duration
2 — 4 weeks
— What happens
Concept becomes production drawings. We draft the full set in AutoCAD (or Revit for BIM-coordinated builds): floor plans, elevations, sections, construction details, hardware schedules, finish callouts, and a complete materials specification. Every sheet carries a title block, dimension strings, and a sheet index — drawing standards that match what Calgary cabinet shops expect.

PHASE 05
Coordination & handoff

Ongoing through fabrication
— What happens
For new builds, we return for a final site measure after drywall and rough-ins are complete — final dimensions update the CAD drawings before they release to production. We're available to the cabinet shop for RFIs during the build, and for clarifications during install. You walk away with a complete documentation package; the shop walks in with everything they need to fabricate.

How we keep projects
on the rails.
Fixed scope, fixed fee.
We quote a flat fee at the end of discovery — not an hourly rate. The scope is written down. Two revision rounds are included for residential, three for new builds. If the scope changes mid-project, we discuss a change order before we start the work. You always know what you're paying for.
Drawings, not opinions.
We're not designers in the interiors sense — we don't pick your paint colour or your barstools. We translate decisions you've already made (or are making with your designer) into the drawings cabinet shops need to fabricate. That focus is why the drawings are deeper, and the fees are lower than a full-service interior brief.
Software shops actually use.
Our drawings come out of Mozaik, AutoCAD, and Revit — the same software your Calgary cabinet shop has open on their floor. No exported PDFs that nobody can edit. No proprietary file formats. The shop opens our files and starts cutting.
No production lock-in.
We design and document. We don't build. That means you're free to take the drawings to any qualified Calgary cabinet shop, bid the work, and choose on price and reputation. We'll recommend shops we've worked alongside — but the choice is always yours.
