— Project types

Every room
with cabinetry.

Residential projects range from a single kitchen renovation to full-home built-in programmes. We've drawn for every cabinetry-bearing room in the Calgary house.

Kitchens

Custom cabinetry programmes including base and upper cabinets, islands, pantries, appliance garages, and integrated appliance specifications. The largest single millwork investment in most Calgary homes.

Primary baths

Vanities, linen storage, water-closet enclosures, and integrated medicine cabinets. Coordinated with tile layouts, plumbing rough-ins, and mirror specifications.

Powder rooms

Compact vanity design, often with floating or pedestal-style construction. Material-forward — a small room where the cabinetry carries the entire design statement.

Mudrooms & entries

Boot benches, integrated lockers, pet stations, package drops. The Calgary winter justifies the investment.

Closets & dressing rooms

Primary closet built-ins, walk-in dressing rooms, his-and-hers configurations. Drawer interiors, jewellery trays, valet rods, lighting specifications.

Libraries & home offices

Floor-to-ceiling shelving, integrated desks, document storage, hidden filing. Often coordinated with wiring for monitors, lighting, and built-in seating.

Media & living built-ins

Entertainment walls, fireplace surrounds, integrated lighting, hidden cable management. Designed around specific TV and equipment dimensions.

Laundry rooms

Folding counters, hanging rods, hamper cabinets, pet wash stations. Increasingly designed as multi-purpose utility rooms.

— What you receive

A complete documentation
package.

Every residential project leaves Planar with the same complete package — drawings, specifications, and visualisation. The cabinet shop opens the file and starts building.

01

Site survey & existing conditions

On-site measurement of the existing space — walls, openings, services, ceiling heights, mechanical interferences. Every dimension in the drawings traces back to a number we measured in person.

02

2D layout & plan

Floor plan and reflected ceiling plan showing cabinet positions, dimensions, walkway clearances, and adjacency to appliances and plumbing. The single document that anchors all subsequent drawings.

03

Mozaik cabinet engineering

Every cabinet box, drawer, shelf, and door modelled in Mozaik — the same production software your Calgary cabinet shop uses. Construction tolerances, material thicknesses, and joinery details engineered to fabrication standard.

04

SketchUp + Enscape 3D rendering

The Mozaik model exports to SketchUp where materials, finishes, hardware, and lighting context are applied. Enscape renders walkable photorealistic scenes — clients see how the kitchen looks from every angle before any sheet of plywood is cut.

05

AutoCAD shop drawings

Plan view, elevations of every wall, sections through every cabinet run, and detail callouts at production scale. Title block, dimension strings, sheet index. AutoCAD files released native — the cabinet shop opens them without translation.

06

Materials & finish specification

Door style, edge profile, wood species or paint colour, drawer-box construction, hardware selections, and counter material. Packaged as a finish book that travels with the drawings to the shop and the site.

07

Two revision rounds

Two formal revision passes are included in every residential project. Most clients use one for refinement after the 3D renderings, and a second for final adjustments before drawings release to production.

— FAQ

Questions from
Calgary homeowners.

01

Do you build the cabinets, or just design them?

We only design and document. Once drawings are released, you take them to any qualified Calgary cabinet shop. We can recommend shops we've worked alongside if you don't have one — but the choice and contract are always yours.

02

I already have an interior designer — should I still hire Planar?

Often yes. Interior designers cover the whole brief — paint, flooring, lighting, soft goods — and bundle millwork in as part of the overall fee. Hiring Planar separately gets you deeper millwork drawings (more elevations, more sections, more detail) and often a lower overall millwork cost because cabinet shops don't need to redraw. Many Calgary interior designers retain us as a sub-consultant.

03

What does a typical Calgary kitchen project cost — drawings plus cabinets?

Drawings from Planar start at $2,500. The cabinet shop's build cost depends on linear footage, materials, and complexity — Calgary kitchens typically run $250–$650 per linear foot, putting most kitchens between $15,000 and $35,000 for the cabinetry build. The drawing fee is a fixed cost; the build cost is what you bid out.

04

How long does a kitchen renovation design take?

Four to six weeks from discovery call to released shop drawings. Simpler builds can run shorter; suite packages or whole-home renovations stretch eight to twelve weeks. Site access for measurement and your turnaround on revisions are the main timeline drivers.

05

Do you handle the architectural permit drawings?

No — we're millwork specialists. If your renovation requires moving walls, plumbing, or electrical, you'll need an architect or designer for the permit set. We coordinate with whoever you're working with, and our millwork drawings sit alongside their architectural set.

06

Can you work from a Pinterest board and photos, or do I need professional drawings to start?

A Pinterest board, room photos, rough dimensions, and a budget range are enough to start a discovery call. For renovations of existing rooms, we measure on site. For new construction or layout changes, we need architectural drawings.

07

What if I change my mind after drawings are complete?

Two revision rounds are included. Beyond that, change orders are quoted hourly — typical revisions run $200–$600 each. We're explicit about scope to keep this rare; most projects close out within the included rounds.
